Creeping Infestation II

Well that didn't take very long........ The paypal account is now empty as impulse drew me in to picking up three AT-43 Oni Tac-Arms,or should that be Nurgle Terminator proxies to go with the three I already have which is just one away from the sacred number if you remember that sort of thing.

It was only after I parted with my virtual folding that it occurred to me that rather than outing the Dark Angels of the Dark Vengeance set that I'm still wary of buying I could use them as fallen modelling on various degrees of plague / rust / ruin etc.

Once again the froth seems to be building and my mind has gone into over-drive as to how I could put together a Nurgle cult force for a game that I'd apparently decided that I'd never touch again with any form of bargepole :/

One option, which my wallet seems to be following already, is to pick up some Oni vehicle support via E-Bay as and when bits come up. About the same price as GW bu pre-built and block coloured I also really like the look / design of them.

Got one of these in Green / Sand washed and weathered sporting Tau decals for a Manga look. Fluff would be a rogue Bio-Engineered super-soldier project turned fully to Father Nurgle.

The APC would work nicely as a Rhino or Chimera and being non GW would allow me to go either way to field alternative list via use / abuse of ALLIES.
Got one of these to but done nothing with it. To be honest I find the cannon somewhat oversized but I'm sure I can shorten the barrel without a problem.

Could easily run as a Russ, Basilisk, Predator or Vindicator. Possibly even as something particularly funky from the Forgeworld garage. Could add some of their secondary weapon kits.

Haven't got one of these or it's ramapaging owner but I'm very sure I'd like to! All sorts of options as a command or scout vehicle whilst the man himself could be good as a lesser Lord or warped Psyker type.

Combined with a possible swap-out of the Dark Angels with a willing participant and I have a substatial sized Sci-Fi army of grizzled scumbags willing to invade any set or rules you might like to profer.

It does occur that I might like to look at possible army lists at some point. Dodgy PDFs of the current Chaos and Gaurd codexes would be next I suppose followed by the new Chaos Codex whenever it appears.

Not sure if there's any form of Traitor Gaurd codex knocking about. I'm sure Google will let me know :)

Government Enhanced Zombies

A quick shout-out to any fellow ZOMBIES!! geeks who might be shuffling around out there as I've worked through my remaining AT-43 Oni Zombie repaints.

Very simple stuff once again as a bit of pre-highlight, detail work and a couple of washes. More than happy with the rather grimy finish as it suits the subjects rather well.

The Shogun here got a bit more detail work along with some quick and easy pea-dot and a few post-wash highlights. All pretty quick and easy so 1 PP each for a total of 22.

As an other shout-out I'd just like to express my appreciation to those of you who surf past on any sort of basis. Since the installation of the flag-counter I've been pleased to see a lot of unexpected results.

The AT-43 posts understandably got quite a few French hits whilst Polish, Chinese and Iranian readers were unexpected, though always welcome.

Many thanks to you all. Merry gaming!

Straight from the box

This is likely to be my last post for a good ten days or so as i've failed to appreciate how busy Virgin Media's installation chaps are. Just over a week without internet or cable TV!! I'll be catching up on Fable III and a few DVD classics and boxed sets then!

As manually 360'd below i've re-painted an AT-43 Therian Golgoth. Initially just messing about a bit it turned into a full repaint, though no undercoat was needed as the pre-paint finish keyed really well. A few more manga-ese Tau transfers produce a good result.

Not a lot of effort required so another 3 PPs. See you in a while!

Whiff of grape-shot

Or more to the point....... varnish.

As previously mentioned the curse of the freshly painted figures raised its pungent head on Tuesday night and my dice ran for cover.... little buggers!!

Myself, Ian and Charlie were trying out multi-player Uncharted Seas and the stripped down mechanics allowed things to happen pretty easily.

I've had this theory about not using a battleship but events and fleet composition rules say otherwise!
Freshly painted sighted sir! Just send a couple of frigates, the fools won't stand a chance!! The manoeuvre below was well planned and executed with a minimum of smugness.

A sinking was assured until the dice hit the table...... shocker!! Thankfully, for me, Ian and Charlie took out each other with a couple of magazines exploding whilst I looked on and then, with the only battleship left afloat, cruised in to claim victory.

Another magnificent theory exploded!

Rather busy with life otherwise this week bar a few bits and bobs.
I've downloaded and printed the AT-43 rulebook from the Confrontation website recently. All the army books are there as well. Two thumbs up!!

So I've been reading through as and when and have been really impressed by the cohesive background. Feels very "Blade Runner" to me which I like. Plenty of inspiration there for a couple of potential other projects including Star Wars.

Meanwhile i really need to get round to Trev's stuff. Got a bit of time off next week so a big green beasty looms large with my conscience.

Make way for Grand-father Nurgle, Lord of the Lurgy..........

ONI the Strong.........

Just one phrase, so many poor jokes.......
My ONI have arrived and i've finally had the chance to unpack them and have a decent look and the short version is that i'm seriously impressed.

You get a serious amount in the box including scenery, a double sided playsheet, quick start rules plus a tape and dice.
The figures themselves are in a proper hard plastic and well constructed. I wouldn't go bouncing the off the floor but they're definately sturdy. I doubt that they'll chip too easily!

I'm particuarly impressed with the vehicles, they're proper plastic tank kits a la Tamiya but in one piece and pre-painted.
To be honest the "paint jobs" are relatively basic but are clean, clear and have a consistent of shade though of a relatively limited scope.

I'm already thinking that a bit of wash and highlight work could go an awful long way. With a few transfers and a bit of decent detail work you can get a major result.
The wheels don't go round but you can't have everything now then can you :)
So a bit of a result really, well pleased. Say hello to Mr Convert :)

Slowly, slowly.....

.......catchy monkey. And at that an evil Nazi zombie monkey, so it would seem!

Twas' club night on Tuesday and Jon was good enough to run me through a game of AT-43, for the second time if memory serves.

It's a good, clean set of rules utilising a simple core mechanic that applies to just about every part of the game.

It's also FUN and gets you a decisive result in short order. It would seem that i'm a convert :)

I also got to have a read through the Oni army book, which just happened to be lying around, whilst Charlie waxed lyrical about his plans to pick up a Cogs army to join the 4 other guys at the club already playing regular games and campaigns.

I knew that I was in "trouble" when I started the justification process that is all too common to so many of us:

Pros:
1. Out of the box game that I know that I can get regular games of and that looks good.
2. It fits in well with the Star Wars universe, providing a source of protagonists, figures and scenery.
3. The Oni zombies will work well with the Interstate '76 project that I want to do. The army as a whole will work well for any sci-fi skirmish and should be compatible with my GIs.
4. I like the game and the vehicles are just awesome.

The main reason that i've stayed away, up 'til now, has been my snobbishness regarding pre-painted plastic figures.

Seeing the other guy's figures has proved thier quality, which is high, and using the Star Wars 'Clix figures has shown me what you can do with pre-paints.

And, once again, I come back to getting more bang for my hobby buck. AT-43 fits the bill and the Oni do it for me!

I can't say that I feel entirely comfortable with the pre-paint thing but maybe I just need to man up, as much as a war-gamer can, and withdraw my lower lip.

The price is that I feel that I should sell on FoW Germans, effectively as a trade in.

I don't HAVE to and I SHOULD probably E-Bay my Whermacht anyway. They haven't hit the table in far too long and have little chance of doing so.

It all just feels a bit wrong somehow. It shouldn't, it makes good sense. Maybe that's what I don't like.......... a sensible hobby!!

It's still going to happen though and I WANT to go for it.

Man up Fase and paint some more Japs :)
