Big Ships Rarely Tire

Hello people,

Yesterday myslef, Mr C, Dave T and Hadrian T rocked up at Lost Ark for thier X-Wing Store Championship.

I'm a big fan of Lost Ark and have always had a good day out with them. With a field of 24 it was a more laid back event with a number of well known friendly faces.

As such I was running a more laid back list which kind of bits and pieces;
Decimator - Patrol Leader - Darth Vader
Firespray - Kath Scarlet - Rebel Captive
TIE Fighter - Backstabber

In short across four rounds I went 2-2 to finish a respectable 11th.
First up young Flint gave me my best game of the day with a unique Chewbacca build just taking the win. Second game was against five A-Wings which was always going to be a struggle and my opponent made it worse. Best forgotten for many reasons.

Two losses saw me up against Mr C who was running the same Rebel swarm list that had done so well for him at Dark Sphere. It was a very close game but I took it at the last. This is what I love about X-Wing, many lists can do well on thier day. My final game against Luke, Wedge, Biggs and a Tala was a bit of a cakewalk.

There were plenty of big ships and 360s in attendence so it was good to see a TIE swarm take the title. Huge kudos to Dave T who ran a Patrol Leader and two Sigmas to finish first after four rounds, only to go out at the first eliminator.

Generally speaking I was happy that I flew pretty well on the day. Backstabber was fun but the list lacked much synergy, which was no great surprise. For myself I've decided to concentrate on running a supported mini swarm for a while. It's flexible, seems to suit my style and still gives plenty of options. I may need to ween myself away from Howlrunner :)

On that note I've recently finished up my Boba repaint, 3 PPs, and I'm very, very pleased with him. My own version I've squeezed in a bit of check to fit with my Scum while keeping to his classic scheme.
Furthering that note I pre-ordered two of everything from Lost Ark as we're back up there next Saturday for Attack Wing. Ironic?

I've told myself that I'm going to have to control myself with it all.  Hmmmm.......;)

BIG day out.....again

Hello people,

Today was yet another trip out with Mr C to play a bit of X-Wing. This time out it was down at Wayland Games / Tabletop Nation for a three round tourney followed by a 60 point big ship bash.

Rocking up I decided to run my Lock-Jaw list:
TIE Defender - Col Vessery - Heavy Laser Cannon - Veteran Instincts
Lambda Shuttle - Ion Cannon - Fire Control System - Weapons Engineer - ST321
Academy TIE x 2

By the end of Round 2 I'd scored a total of 27 points, an A-Wing and an Academy TIE. Game 1 was my first brush with Han Shoots First (Han - 3CPO - Gunner) where I failed to go route 1 at Han. It did not go well!

Game 2 was an interesting Vader-Decimator / TIE list. Things went much better as I went straight at the Decimator. However.....I allowed the Decimator in behind the shuttle and Vessery overshot the big lad into multiple fire arcs only to roll a big bunch of blank green.

Game 3 was the complete opposite as everything clicked for me and went as wrong as it could for my TIE Interceptor - Phantom opponent. In the first turn of fire I one-shotted two of his Interceptors....one of which with an Academy chap (now promoted).

As such I avoided the spoon to place 12 of 16. I also picked up plenty of ideas to hone my list, my flying and a  boat load of ideas for other lists. As much as I'd have liked to be a bit more competitive it was all a positive experience.

The big bonus of the day was that I picked up a prize, a B-Wing art card box, for Best Repaint which is very pleasing :) I also ended up winning the free raffle for a Tantive IV........WOW!!

Not quite sure to do with that yet. Maybe a re-paint! :)
A 4-way Decimator love in.....Stressful!
Mmmmm....SWAG

Slave to the Darkness?

Evening All!

So...4 games with 3 Z-95 Headhunters and 2 Y-Wings. Expecting to take a battering I somehow pulled three wins and ended up spending the final round on the top table. I did then take a bit of a pasting, despite giving a decent game, and dropped down to fourth of ten players but that was still a major result....and one place higher than MrC ;]

The List: 99pts
Z-95 - Airen Cracken - Swarm Tactics
Z-95 - Bandit Squadron
Z-95 - Bandit Squadron
Y-Wing - Dutch Vander - Ion Turret - R2-D6 - Veteran Instincts
Y-Wing - Gold Squadron - Ion Turret

I'd slapped it together wanting to try out Z-95s and Ys ahead of Scum and Villany and picked up a few synergous bits between the options which apparently worked rather well. It took half a game to settle but after that I worked my options a lot better and starting manoeuvring as a unit.

The 95s swarm well but are fragile while the Ys are proper tanks and with a pair of then I can pull circuits and cover a wide area with Ion fire. All in all a good day out.

As I was always likely to I picked up a Slave 1 on the way out. Thinking either going full Boba with the paint scheme or working up something a bit more Black Sun, bone and crimson most likely.

Fully converted to the ways of X-Wing I am :)

Avast Me Heartys.....would you like some tea?

Hello people,

Not been too much going on around here recently. Not been too much to report and my Blogger App has been playing up when there has.

Had a few days off last week getting out and about including a visit to HMS Belfast. I work just across the other side of the river from her and have been meaning to have a look for a good long while. Very glad I did and I heartily recommend a visit to all.

Going aboard I soon realised she's a bit of a Tardis. I'd always thought that, for a cruiser, she wasn't the biggest, especially for the Arctic convoys, but with 9 decks she's a real warren and you get to climb from boiler room to gunnery observation platform.

You get the usual posed dummies but there are some pretty impressive interactive bits as well. A lot of the focus is understandly WWII but there was a fair bit about Korea as well which I hadn't really appreciated before.

Get piped aboard sometime, you won't regret it :)
