Filthy Little Urchins!!

Hello people, As threatened, just a quick one for the SAGA / LOTR Gobbos in the required Hollywood I'm a bad guy so therefore I'm British, in fact the lower down the scale I drop the more Pearly Kings and Queens I get.
Anyway, 11 figures for 22 PPs. Really lovely figures, it's a shame that so many of them out there have been treated as little more than dross........

Not the greatest shots somehow but somehow suitable. The Moria Troll is in the post, the wallet is straining at it's payday leash. Well shall see :)

Running with the Hordes

Evening people,

The LOTR / SAGA Goblin Levy have just been washed so hopefully that should be another fistful of PPs tomorrow night and a completed 6 point force. I've really enjoyed this project, and especially painting the LOTR figures to the point that I'm already looking to expand the force.

An unarmoured Moria Troll with spear is 95% sourced from E-Bay while I've also been eyeing up some Warg Riders, they're just such lovely figures! I also dropped into GW Enfield on the way home from footy this afternoon to do a bit of research as I've also been eyeing up the Hunter Orcs, foot and mounted, to add a bit of variation to the force.

Going back to my recent rant, the newer figures are cool but I'm not sure why they're "worth" £5 and £7 a box more for the same number of figures :/ What was really cool was the chat that I had with Dan, the Manager, about what I was doing with them and what I was looking at. He mentioned the Half-Ogres in the Harad and Umbar range, that I wasn't even aware of! Checking them out on the website lead to a few more possibles;
How good are these? Excellent add on / command figures. Nice call Dan, really enjoyed the chat, you really got what I was after. If only a felt the same way about your employer.

Unfortunately Wednesday was another bust for Star Wars: EotE but instead we cracked the seal on Zombiecide: Prison Break. Setting up the tutorial we expected a fairly easy run breaking into the prison. Yeahh........not so much!!

A first turn Abomination didn't really help but the real step up is with the missions. As you would expect with a Prison security is paramount so we needed to go find the key-card....to let us into the exercise yard full of shamblers. On the run pretty quickly we soon learned the power of the drive-by / zombie-ram which quickly drove up the kill count, and a such the Z-count!

The other twist are the Zombi-vor rules. Two of our guys went down only to get back up wild-eyed and suddenly far more durable. The same happened Tuesday night with the club ZC campaign. I haven't read the rules myself and am fairly sure we were doing it right but it does initially seem a bit strong.

Admittedly without our super-charged Z-Boys we would have been guaranteed zombie-chow and otherwise couldn't have touched the Abo. I can see the fluff point that whilst "on the turn" you might go all roid-tastic but I'm not so sure the rest of the party wouldn't be a touch wary of their newly resurrected buddies.
But hey, its a Zom-pocalypse..........and a game :) Good fun!!

You got a real pretty mouth!

Evening all,

Standard Sunday night "look at what I've painted" post as I've finished off my SAGA Mordor Orcs. Following Bolg, literally and figuratively, I've gone for a "human" fleshtone with some green washes in there for a bit of a tint.

In fact I've deliberately gone out of my way to paint them up as a dirty, scumbag rabble of inbred scum with a high incidence of shuffling gait and exaggerated overbite. Lots of pre-higlight and wash work which I'm very happy with. So happy in fact that I'm 90% going back to the Uruks to replicator the skin tone as mountain wild men gone even wronger. Will likely have a go at a mix of darker skintones as a nod to their "heritage".

So another 32 PPs and just the Goblin levy to go for the generic 6 point force of proper scum. I'm thinking lots of leathers for these chaps as the models have a lot of armour that is simply not representative of their station in life!

So far I haven't sorted any banners or musicians.....duelling banjos anyone :)

Meat' Back on the (SAGA) Menu

Evening people,

Standard Sunday night "What I painted this week" post as I wrapped up Bolg (Warlord) and the three units of Uruks (Hearthgaurd) for my LOTR SAGA project. That's 26 PPs in the bag for a big tart to the New Year. I kept the Uruks green-skinned but lightened it up for contrast as well as the armour and shields. I wanted to keep Bolg more ugly mo-fo human, the Mordor Orcs will go the same way.

Better photo as I finally found the correct camera charger though I seemed to have slacked lightly with the set-up. I do now prefer a black background rather than white but I know that soaks rather then reflects, will try and experiment a bit.

Next up are the Mordor Orcs (Warriors) and the Hasslefree Moderns for some variation. Feet in both camps to keep the motivation up :)

The Twelve Days of X-Mas - Day 12

Had a lie in and played footy this afternoon so very little extras before going back to work tomorrow.

On the way home I had 10 minutes spare to pop into GW for a couple of paints........and managed to also pick up Bolg, aka Gundabad Orc General, for my Mordor force. He's finecast.........£15......FIFTEEN QUID!!!
Yes I paid it, once I eventually managed to let go of my card, as much as on the excuse that I haven't experienced Finecast before.......

Digging him out of the packet there were no obvious holes or gaps and the flash came off easily enough. His doubled handed mace was surprisingly soft, somewhat spongy in fact. As such the fit was somewhat "fluid", I needed green stuff to be happy with it. Not quite earnt the price tag just yet, I'll see how he paints but for that price I rather expect him to help out!!

So that's £15 of figures so far for 2014 and £9.50 of paint. Chatting STAW this evening I've noticed Star Wars 1-6 for £18...... ;)

So, a fair result for the 12 days in two completed projects and a bit of prep, about what I would have honestly expected. Meanwhile here's the view from the painting station:

The Twelve Days of X-Mas - Day 9

Bit of a mild slump today, otherwise known as Red Dead Redemption, and then supply issues have struck.

I HAVE, as well as numbering The Nameless, sorted out a 6 point Mordor SAGA force consisting of three groups of Uruk Hearthgaurd, two groups or Orc Warriors and one of Goblin Levy, which all seems to work well enough. All but the Gobbos have been cleaned up and stuck to bases.

The Gobbos haven't felt the love as I've run out of tuppences to stick them to. I also use the phrase "stuck to bases" as it would seem that my big pot of PVA is hiding somewhere in storage. That would also mean that in 2013 I haven't gravelled a single figure.....that would be a lot of Dreadball (8 teams plus MVPs and extras in fact) and the Dark Heresy figs on clear bases. Hmm....

I was thinking that the Hasslefree Moderns would be mounted on clear bases but was a bit torn. It appears that decision as know been made. I have dug out a few AT-43 exiles but their mates are hiding in an oversize case at the club!

All rather irritating as I was planning to get well stuck into a lot of Mordor browns tomorrow but not the end of the world I'm sure :) Lets build some Moderns before bed-time!!
